Dmitry Morozov: until I die

Dmitry Morozov: until I die

The installation by the Russian artist Dmitryj Morozov, also known as ::vtol::, operates on batteries powered by electricity generated from the artist's blood.

The energy powers an algorithmic module and creates a sound composition that visitors can hear. For the first presentation of the installation the artist had been collecting his blood for 18 months, and storing this blood required a number of complex manipulations in order to preserve its chemical composition, colour, homogeneity and sterility. The total of 4.5 litres of blood were diluted to 7 litres required for the installation to work. The remaining 200 ml of blood needed to power the installation were drawn from the artist during the opening performance. For the purpose of presenting his installation at the Močvara Gallery, Morozov will re-enact this performance of drawing blood prior to activating the installation.
