Marvels and Catastrophes
The project “Marvels and Catastrophes” brings together artists, architects and designers who participated in “R-Lab”, a post-master's research course at the Royal institute of Art in Stockholm.
"R-Lab" moves through historical and contemporary landscapes and instills itself in spaces affected by the forces of nature and climate changes. “R-Lab” conducts a number of short-term workshops including mapping, documenting and presenting new critical interventions. It will explore concepts and topics related to destructions, disappearance and erasure of the elements of material culture, the roles of tangible and intangible evidence, different oral histories formulated around a disappeared / demolished culture, fascination with the aesthetics of ruins, utopian / dystopian narratives on natural disasters. The main event is the participatory workshop titled “Lexicon of Marvels and Catastrophes” designed as a meeting platform and space for cataloguing objects / things / concepts that will be useful / needed in the near future. Workshop participants are invited to jointly come up with a creative and poetic manual for dealing with uncertain situations in the future.
