Nina Kurtela: 365 Routines
Over the period of one year, two artists, Nina Kurtela and Hana Erdman, altered an eight-stroke sequence on a daily basis in order to create a one-year choreography.
Each day they created the sequence alternatively, continuing where the sequence ended the day before. They recorded the movement in a video they shared via email, which enabled them to practice the upcoming sequences every day. Through the choreography they built a continuous communication between two different environments, locations, languages, movement, identity, space and time. Through this everyday ritual the artists questioned the possibility of creating a common imaginary space and created a sense of belonging that is neither physical nor territorial. Dance became their home and through choreographic practice they questioned the concepts of communication, friendship and participation.
