Ivana Kocevska: "Where's Your Gravity" & "Chance-Dance"

We're presenting you Ivana Kocevska, Macedonian choreographer and dancer, through her two works.

"Where's Your Gravity" (7 min) is a research about the kinesthetic abilities of the body. How we use it, can we confront it and etc. It is Ivana's first choreography piece where she acts as a dancer as well.

The interactive approach of the project "Chance-Dance" requires the development of a real-time system that can record the dancer's movements and translate them into a series of numbers on a computer. Those numbers will be mapped to a series of parameters that can change multiple characteristics of the music or create parts of the composition itself at a given moment.

Specifically for the project we use this technology and create a modern, innovative performance that represents the creation of sound / music / story through the body of the dancers. The idea is to present how through kinect sensors we can produce sound with the movement of the body, to create a composition of sounds. This connection of new technology and these three types of audio-visual interpretations opens new possibilities in creating a contemporary dance-music work.

Ivana Kocevska is a dancer, choreographer and has an MA in ballet pedagogy. She studied at the National school for music and ballet “Ilija Nikolovski- Luj” in Skopje, Macedonia. In 2001 she became a part of the Macedonian national opera and ballet ensemble.

She danced as a soloist and had main roles in the ballets such as Nutcracker, Swan lake, Sleeping beauty, Don Quixote, Napoli, Samson and Dalilah, Carmen, Gizelle, Serenade, Concerto Barocco, Esmeralda, Sheherazade, Carmina Burana, Conservatory (Bournonville), La Sylphide, Les Sylphides, Agony of a heartbeat (Galili) and many others.

She worked as soloist with the Slovenian national ballet in Ljubljana and in Wuerzburg on invitation by Anna Vita and was for one year with the Ukrainian National ballet as an apprentice where she danced the role of Myrtha in the ballet "Giselle".

She choreographed performances in the field of alternative theater and collaborated with many performance artists. Her first big production “Metamorphosis” premiered on the 3rd of July 2018 on the main stage of the National ballet with the support of the Ministry of culture of Macedonia. Then she created her next performance entitled "KINTSUGI - the art of precious scars" where she incorporated visual mapping with dance and electronic music which was supported by the Goethe institute in Skopje.
