Reconstruction of Pogon Jedinstvo
In cooperation with the City of Zagreb as the investor and project developer and with the support of the Ministry of Culture, we have prepared the project for the reconstruction of the former factory into a cultural, creative and social centre. Although the project has not been realized, we see it as an important contribution to envisioning social spaces.
The plant is located in the former Jedinstvo pump factory located in Trnjanski nasip by the Sava River, the oldest part of Trnje – Staro Trnje. The factory was closed and abandoned in 1990, and over the years it began to be used for cultural and artistic events. Today it is used by Pogon, Močvara Club and the House of Extreme Music Theatre (DB Indoš) and has become an important place for culture in the city. The building in which we operate needs to be renovated, and in cooperation with the City of Zagreb as the investor and project developer and with the support of the Ministry of Culture, we have prepared a reconstruction project that, although not realized, represents one of the possible solutions for improving Pogon’s premises.
Through the reconstruction, the plan was to create a modern infrastructure, a new place of social gathering and offer new facilities that would contribute to the revitalization of Trnje, that is, the area along the Sava River. The authors of the reconstruction project are Dinko Peračić and Miranda Veljačić from Poduzeće za projektiranje i konzalting u graditeljstvu ARP d.o.o. The building permit was obtained in March 2017, and then a detailed design was developed. Pogon Jedinstvo regional multifunction centre applied for EU funding within the Integrated Territorial Investments, which encourages the revitalization of the city through the reconstruction of the so-called “brownfields”. The project, however, did not get sufficient funds for the entire reconstruction. Even though the reconstruction has not been realized, Pogon continues to systematically invest in small and large repairs of the building in order to improve the existing premises in anticipation of a new comprehensive solution.
