Residency snippets – Sara Salamon

As part of the artist exchange program at Akademie Schloss Solitude, artist Sara Salamon will be staying in Stuttgart from September to the end of November 2024.

Rijeka-based visual artist Sara Salamon works in various artistic practices as a visual artist, editor and motion image designers. In her work, she often seeks to subvert the medium, drawing inspiration from collective wilderness and an elusive realities. She has a particular interest in public spaces, specific locations, and unusual media connections.

In the last month of Sara Salamon's Schloss Solitude residency, we bring you thought snippets and a small photo report of her stay.

The residency has created time for me to open new chapters in my work, to work on what I have imagined, but also to develop something new, for now only on paper and in the form of sketches.

What surprised me the most were technical working conditions that Solitude provides us with; in our Croatian context, it's quite a 'science fiction'.

What I certainly didn't expect was how difficult it is to say 'goodbye' to dear people who have concluded their stay here.

My favorite space is Studio 15, which is a studio for 'dirty work', Herman's Library, and the forest around us.

The residency ends at the end of November. The culmination is Open Solitude, which takes place on November 22, when residents have the opportunity to present their works or work processes.

Akademie Schloss Solitude is a renowned German institution that has been implementing a program of international transdisciplinary residencies since 1990, through which it has connected more than 1,400 young artists from over 120 countries.

The exchange of artists with Akademie Schloss Solitude takes place within the Eastern European network that Akademie Schloss Solitude began to build in 2002, and since 2009, through a partnership with Pogon, Croatia is also a participant. Candidates for residency in Stuttgart are selected through a public call that Pogon announces once a year. Based on the applications received, the Residency Council, assembled by Pogon, selects three potential candidates for the shortlist. The final selection is made by Akademie Schloss Solitude, and Sara Salamon was selected for 2024.
