Intercultural cinema: Flee & Voice no. 1
Platforma Upgrade invites you to screenings of an animated film about confronting the past and a short film about prejudice and overcoming the obstacles that accompany the experience of migration.
"Flee" is an animated documentary telling a true story about a man's need to confront his past in order to truly have a future. Amin arrived as an unaccompanied minor in Denmark from Afghanistan. Today, at 36, he is a successful academic and is getting married to his long-time boyfriend. A secret he has been hiding for over 20 years threatens to ruin the life he has built for himself. For the first time, he is sharing his story with his close friend.
This film by Jonas Poher Rasmussen is the first film in history to receive Oscar nominations in the categories of best animated, documentary and foreign film.
The program ‘Voice through Moving Images’, a series of animation workshops for people with migrant experience led by Nina Klarić and Matija Pisačić, presents the first in a series of short films – ‘Voice No. 1’ by the Peruvian author Nicole Gordillo.
Using the stop-motion animation technique, we follow the main character during her visit to the market on a completely ordinary day. In a humorous and warm tone, the film speaks about prejudice, language barriers and overcoming obstacles that accompany the experience of migration.
Along with the screenings, parts of the set design and puppets used in the production of the short film will also be on display.
