Space, Landscape and Territory

The project leader is Assoc. Prof./Dr. Josip Zanki and the members of the research team are Assoc. Prof./Dr. Ida Blažičko (deputy project leader), Assoc. Prof. Maja Rožman, Asst. Prof. Ida Loher, Prof. Tomislav Buntak, Assoc. Prof./Dr. Ivan Fijolić, Asst. Lect. Petra Šarin, and Senior Artistic Associate Fedor Fischer. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology and Ethnology of the University of Zadar, Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas and Sapienza University in Rome.

The project includes three thematic units. The first relates to the production of space, the inscription of meaning in space and the transformation of nature/landscape through spatial interventions. The second opens the problem of decolonization of public space, while the third explores zones of marginality, autonomous zones, hegemony in space and territoriality. The project's objectives are: to create new forms of artistic and scientific research practices and spatial interventions; to detect works of art in public space and zones of marginalities; to find possible new interpretations and re-contextualization of space through workshops and lectures; to form new participatory forms of artistic activity; to collect field material and form visual essays, works of art and professional papers that will critically redefine space; to create new forms of artistic and educational practices using the principle of horizontal learning.

The project methodology is based on artistic research, ethnographic and autoethnographic procedures, interdisciplinary strategies and collaborations with local stakeholders. The project results will include artistic works in the media of spatial interventions, videos, drawings and artist’s books; ethnographic materials; scientific texts; scientific and professional publications.
