PuTanja: L.O.M.
This multimedia circus performance deals with questions of identity by observing the relationship between the individual and their own thoughts and beliefs about themselves, as well as the sources on which those beliefs are based.
Where are, those endless thoughts that are constantly streaming through my head, coming from? What am I, and what are expectations of the society? How do they make me feel, move, or communicate?
You only need to set things straight in your head, they say. Or perhaps in my soul? But, how to hear, recognize, or feel the soul?
This multimedia circus performance deals with questions of identity by observing the relationship between the individual and their own thoughts and beliefs about themselves, as well as the sources on which those beliefs are based. To serve this purpose, a sculptural prop – a forest of ropes – has been designed, carrying both scenographic and metaphorical significance. With this prop, the author, Tanja Puklek Borelli, builds a relationship rooted in a process of self-reflection. Here, the darkest abyss intertwines with the most vibrant light, warm sun rays meet storms, pain merges with embraces, laughter, and a multitude of elements that define us, yet remain undiscovered on the horizon between matter and metaphysics. Starting from a place of free play, the author explores this relationship by relying on principles of contact improvisation and incorporating various techniques from contemporary dance and circus arts. Another representation of this relationship is the author's approach to the prop as an extension of herself. The stage design and performance are conditioned by the space, which continuously and organically revitalizes this work. The entire atmosphere is enveloped in a musical composition by Sunčica Dropulić and illuminated by the light design of new media artist Filip Borelli. The inspiration for the concept and title stems from the author's personal experience as well as the work of contemporary psychologists Margaret Paul, Bill Plotkin, and Tsabari Shefali. Referring to false beliefs born from what she describes as a "toxic patriarchy," Shefali, in her discussions of this topic, uses the term "Lies of the Matrix," which underpins the title "L.O.M."
The play is scheduled for the Big Hall of Pogon Jedinstvo on Sunday, May 25th at 7 p.m.
Entrance is free. Donations optinal.
